Plastic Mountain

Not many people know her but she works her magic all over the world.  Wherever there is a problem Toots the unusual owl can be found.

She has been very busy just lately destroying disregarded face masks which some people just leave around the countryside.  Together with her many friends they destroy these in the volcanoes erupting around the world.  You can all help by taking yours and your family’s home and getting rid of them the proper way.

Toots was sitting in her office in the trunk of a large Oak Tree when she saw on TV yet another plastic problem brought to people’s attention by a young lady.  It would appear that children’s comic publishers were wrapping them in plastic and then including cheap plastic toys. She had already got things started and was gathering support from other places.  Toots decided to join the campaign and do what she could. Her phone rang and Pete the Gorilla told her about the plastic mountain that was growing in the jungle. The mountain was gradually moving towards the sea which would mean trouble to all those living in the sea. She immediately called a virtual meeting of her friends around the world to see how they could help. It would appear that unscrupulous people were not destroying the plastic but were shipping it from all around the world to increase the size of the mountain. Something had to be done before the forests and the land disappeared under mountains of plastic. Scientists around the world put their heads together to come up with a solution. Toots was sitting quietly in her favourite place on the Oak tree when a faint memory came to her; she remembered that there were micros that could break down plastics. All the great leaders of the world came to Toots Oak tree and watched while the micros got to work. Slowly, slowly the plastic began to bubble, melt and take the shape of a brick.  The scientist took the bricks away to test them.   The bricks proved to be very strong and warm and would be excellent material for making houses.

This meant that for many, many years trees would not need to be cut and the plastic mountains disappeared.   The new cheap bricks would enable more homes to be built all over the world and that nature could have the land back to grow things.   Over the years the use of plastic became less and less and newer and biodegradable materials would be invented.

There was still plenty of work for Toots to do but with the land, sea and forests growing making earth a much better place to live.  Who would have thought a small micro could turn out to be so useful.

Whyte Wood Acorn Folk

Not many people know but acorns have many more talents other than hanging about on Oak trees.

I would like to tell you the story of the acorn folk who have lived in a small wood in Chislehurst for many centuries. They have seen many changes over the years. They are very busy folk and do their best to keep the wood clean and tidy. Unfortunately this has become more difficult of late because of the humans that visit. They keep the carved bears polished and cleaned and the knocker on the Fairy House shining. They love to watch the children playing in the park and the dogs sniffing in the undergrowth.

They live in the trunks of the Oak trees but you will never find the front door because this is underground.  There are long staircases going up the trees, off of which are various rooms. They use the cans they find to communicate with each other. Make escape pods and containers to keep ammunition in to fire at people dropping litter and causing mischief.   There are many others such as:

  • Making into chairs.

  • Tables.

  • Storage

  • Baby rocking cradles.

Plus many more ideas – what do you think?

Why only the other day a couple of boys were sitting on a log drinking a can of drink which they threw away and then proceeded to carved their names in the wood. The acorn folk began bombarding them with old acorns wrapped in muddy leaves. At first the boys were not scared until one of them got hit on the back of the head with a particularly hard acorn.

If you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of one of them darting in and out of the undergrowth.   Just like the little girl who spotted  a large leaf bobbing up and down  She bent down to have a look and saw that one of the acorn folk was caught in a bramble and struggling to get free.  She kindly set him free and before you could say “who are you?” he was gone.

It so happened a couple of weeks later that the little girl lost her purse with money for a present.  She cried and her mother told her not to worry.  The little girl then wandered off to see the bears and was surprised to see the acorn with her purse. He quietly gave the purse back to her before her mother saw him move.

So remember that the wood is the home of the acorn people, so please treat it with respect and take home your litter or put it in the bin.   This would make it easier for the acorn people to retrieve the items they can make use of.
