Fitness Trail Party

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather and came to the Fitness Trail Party on Easter Monday 9th April! Despite the rain, people seemed to really enjoy it, and hopefully some of us are slightly fitter following the expert tuition from personal trainer Simon Hughes. Alas, the balloon didn't fly due to the atmospheric conditions; we hope to stage this attraction at another event later this year. There was still plenty of fun to be had: as well as the fitness trail and the climbing wall, there was an Easter Egg hunt and an art challenge for the children.
Michael Gunning
Local athlete Michael Gunning officially opened the fitness trail. Michael is currently an International Junior Swimmer who trains 20 hours per week with Beckenham Swimming Club!
Michael’s best events are the 200m Butterfly and the 1500m Freestyle, and last year in early June he was selected to represent ‘Team GB’ in the European LEN CUP in Rome where he took 2 of his A-level Examinations and returned to swim in the International Great London Swim Elite Race, achieving 7th place alongside Germany’s 9 Time World Champion Thomas Lurz, and Great Britain’s Olympic Medalist David Davies.
Unfortunately, Michael missed out on his Olympic Qualification into the London 2012 Olympics but his next aim will be to get on the England Team in the Commonwealth Games in 2014.  The Friends would like to thank him for opening the fitness trail, and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.

The Chislehurst Rec Fitness Trail project has been funded through the Community Spaces programme which is being managed by Groundwork UK as an Award Partner to the Big Lottery Fund. Community Spaces is part of the Big Lottery Fund’s Changing Spaces initiative. As well as the photos below, the press release is still available.
