Bears coming to Walden Rec.

“Have you packed your suitcases; we are leaving soon!” Shouted mummy bear to the little bears. You see they were all going on an adventure and mummy bear was busy making marmalade sandwiches for the journey so they wouldn’t go hungry.

“Where is it again?” Asked baby bear.  Mummy bear started laughing and said “I’ve told you before! We are going to a magical place called Walden Rec. in Chislehurst. It is where your cousins live. You know, the boating bears and the little playground bears? They are the most friendly people there and your cousins love playing with the Chislehurst children” The little bears packed as quickly as they could because they had to leave soon if they were to catch the 5.15 from Bearsted. They then had a long journey ahead of them expecting to arrive Tuesday if they were lucky but only if they made the connecting train. Otherwise, it might be Wednesday but no later than Thursday! Good thing they had plenty of sandwiches.

“Oh dear” said bear and shook his head. “What does it say?” said the bear at the end of the boat and pointed to the telegram the postman had just delivered. “It says our cousins missed the connecting train due to signal problems AND a faulty train! They are now staying the night at the station in Teddington” said the bear.

That was very unfortunate indeed. Luckily, they had plenty of marmalade sandwiches left and the nice station manager had told them they could sleep in his office and help themselves to all the squash they could drink!

“Tomorrow it is” said the bear and all the boating bears smiled. They could not wait till their cousins arrival.

It had been a long night on the floor at Teddington station because the bears were too excited about meeting all their bear cousins and all the Chislehurst children so they hadn’t sleep a wink! They probably also drank too much squash. They arrived at Elmstead Woods station and were surprised to be met by more bears when they got off the train.

“Hello” they said. “We are going to Walden Rec.! Who are you?” “We are the new station bears” they said. “We also heard about this magical place called Chislehurst and decided to come”. “So how many bears are we then?” said the bravest of the 3 bears. “Oh there are lots of us! My cousin is the bear manager of Chislehurst station, I have friends who have moved to Belmont Open Spaces and to Chislehurst Common.” The 3 bears looked around and thought the station was beautiful. It even had a pond… with fish! Such a beautiful place.

“How do we get to Walden Rec.? Our cousins the boating bears are expecting us!” said the biggest of the bears. “Well, just walk up Elmstead Lane and take the cow path and the Rec. will be on your left.”

When the 3 bears arrived, they thought that Walden Rec. was smashing! Trees, nice benches, grass to play football on and even a bee corridor. “This is where we want to live forever” they said in unison and that’s how the story ended.
